Industry
| The economy in 1850 consists of many different factors.
Industry, ports, tourism, wind-energy, agriculture
and the food industry are great parts of the economy
of the destrict 1850. |

Small and Medium Size Enterprises

A lot of medium-sized companies and very much family-owned
enterprises are estabished in the destrict 1850.
Here you can see some very successful examples for
companies in 1850:
- The chocolate company „Hachez“ in
Bremen
- The breweries Becks´s in Bremen and Jever
Pils from the small town frisian town Jever
- Enercon, one of the most successful companies
in producing wind-turbines in Germany. In 2002
they erected in Germany the world-wide largest
wind-turbine with the power of 4.5 MW.
- Or the potential seller of advanced bowling
systems – the Eurobowl company of our team
leader Gerhard Lorch in Scheessel

Large-Scale Enterprises

But you can also find some branches of great and
international well-known companies like
- the automobile manufactorers Daimler-Chrysler
in Bremen and Volkswagen in Emden
- the Karmann company, an automobile manufactorer,
specialized on the production of cabriolets, settle
down in Osnabrück
- Luxury cruise liners are manufactured by the
Meyer-Werft in Papenburg
- In a spezial testing area in the emsland you
can test the high-speed train „Transrapid“
which connects the township of Shanghai with it´s
airport over a distance of nearly 20 miles with
a speed of nearly 200 miles per hour.
- The airoplane manufactorer „Airbus“
produces parts for it´s airoplanes in 1850.
Airbus was in the last year the most successful
airoplane company in Europe. It was the first
time they have been more succesful in Europe than
Boeing. The south african airlines bought in these
days 41 special airoplanes for flights over very
long distances. They especially will be used for
flights to europe.
- But there is also the copper company KME in
Osnabrück, where – for example - the
coins of our new currency, the „Euro“,
are produced. Our team member Michael is working
there as engineer
- or a few parts of the food-company Kraft, for
example the coffee-roaster Jacobs is settled down
in Bremen. Together with the Beck´s brewery
they took care for a smell of coffee and beer
about Bremen.
Together all these companies are responsible for
the economical development in the region of the
destrict 1850.

Fishing
A very important branch for the region is also
the fishing industry. About 167 companies at the
north-sea coast fished in the last year over 35000
tons of fish. A lot of jobs in the region depends
on the fishing industry. But they are not only working
as fishermen on fishing boats. A lot of people are
working in connection with the fishermen. They are
manufacturing the fish to further products or bring
the fishes to wholesalers which sells the fishes
to partners all over the world.
But in our region at the coast you can buy the
fish directly from the fishermen. Especially shrimps
you can buy from the fisher boat. It´s a real
pleasure to eat this fresh fish – like you
can see on these pictures.

Alternative energy
Alternative energies got in the last years a great
importance for the region of 1850. In a first step
a lot of farmers erected a wind turbine on their
fields. So you can imagine that the view over the
country became more and more affected by these single
wind turbines. But the people learned very soon.
Now the most wind turbines are erected in special
wind parks where from 20 to 150 wind turbines are
build up on a spezial area. In this way a lot of
wind parks has been grown up in the last years all
over the region of 1850. In these days the first
projects have been started to build up off-shoe-wind
parks in the north-sea.
In the areas near the north coast it´s a
normal development because of the weather with wind
at every days. But this development is also promoted
by the enercon company in Aurich. Enercon manufactures
wind turbines and erect them all over the world.
They build up from 1985 to 2002 nearly 6.000 wind
turbines all over the world. These wind turbines
has produced 4.5 GW in 2002 – you can compare
this output with the power of 4 middle-sized nuclear
power stations. In Germany in these days 12 nuclear
power stations are in operation. Without alternative
energy from the wind turbines we need some more
of them.

Ports
Another
important branch for 1850 are the ports at the north
sea coast. You can find ports in Bremen, Wilhelmshaven
and Emden. The Port in Bremen is after Hamburg the
second-largest port in Germany. In Europe it´s
on the fourth place. At this time the ports in Emden
and Wilhelmshaven are clearly smaller. But especially
the port in Wilhelmshaven will grow up in the next
years. In this time it will be developed to an tide-independant
port directly at the north sea coats, the Jade-Weser
port. In cooperation with Bremen it will become
the largest port in Germany and perhaps the largest
port in Europe. A very good development for the
region. Additionally to the port the infrastructure
in the region is growing up. Because of this a lot
of new jobs develop in the surroundings of Wilhelmshaven.
